I graduated salutatorian of my high school class in Waynesville, Ohio. After I went to The Ohio State University to study Molecular Genetics and Neuroscience. After completing several semesters of genetics research, I switched my focus solely to neuroscience. I graduated overall Cum Laude and in the top 1% of my major.
Doing nothing really isn't my style! I have been lucky enough to work for many fantastic employers. In my youth I was a lifeguard. I did this in college and even taught swim lessons for awhile! I have also rented cars and worked as a brand ambassador for companies like Gildan and Speedway. I found myself getting my wings in 2018 with Delta Airlines and am so proud of that accomplishment!
In medicine doctor's are told to look for horses. In the EDS community, we are called zebras. Why? I have lived with chronic conditions my whole life, from the second I was born. Heart, eyes, lungs, joints, really nothing was spared. However, the pieces didn't fit together and the doctor's left me with more questions than answers. Until I saw my stripes. See a zebra sounds exactly like a horse if your eyes are closed, but when you open your eyes the black and white stripes can be very confusing! Welcome to life with EDS. Touching my thumb to my wrist is one of the many fun zebra tricks I have! Living with this along with other physical disabilities has kept me on a less traditional path when it comes to the workforce!
In 2015 I began working for a law firm that needed help at events promoting themselves. This turned into several other opportunities that led me down the path of marketing. For the last 10 years I have worked with many small business's to expand their online presence and grow with new and old technology. My skills allow them to reach further into the community and have a consistent platform that is easy to engage with. I am very passionate about connection and how we all truly rely on one another every day.
The first time I flew on a plane I was 13 years old. The next time I flew was a decade later! By the time I was hired as a flight attendant I had flown less than 5 times. I didn't know what a meal service was like, much less first class. It was really fun to learn about the travel industry and get to experience places I know I never would of otherwise. Costa Rica and Hawaii are my two favorite trips. Domestically I have fallen in love with New Orleans! I hope my future involves a lot of travel. Did you know this sign was removed from outside the airport and put at Central Station!
In 2019, I started dog walking with Rover. It is an app that owners can request house sitters, dog walkers, and doggie daycare. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful dogs and their owners. Nothing makes me happier than getting to spoil a dog as my own! I grew up with a Chihuahua named Tibby. I would say, "It's me and Tibby against the world!" Everyone who knew me, knew Tibby. She was such a personality and lived a long 18 years.
In my life I have overcome many obstacles and mental wellness has been a struggle. I have battled suicidal thoughts since elementary school and also have a long history of self harm. I choose to speak openly about this in my adult life because I feel it is crucial to bring to light. In 2010 my school found out about my self harm, but did nothing. It was 10 years later that I finally jumped into the world of therapy. I have found much success learning DBT skills and plan to add a lot of information about this topic on my webpage. Stay tuned! If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or go to your local behavioral hospital for an intake evaluation. I do not suggest going to the EE because they are not trained to handle crisis situations and there are better options. I have gone both routes.
